This was my last read of 2023 and it couldn't have been and it could not have been the best option to close the year on a high note.
“You can’t always wait for someone else to do the right thing when you can do it yourself.”
–Mariana Zapata
What Is It About?
If anyone ever said being an adult was easy, they hadn't been one long enough.
Diana Casillas can admit it: she doesn't know what the hell she's doing half the time. How she's made it through the last two years of her life without killing anyone is nothing short of a miracle. Being a grown-up wasn’t supposed to be so hard.
With a new house, two little boys she inherited the most painful possible way, a giant dog, a job she usually loves, more than enough family, and friends, she has almost everything she could ever ask for.
Except for a boyfriend.
Or a husband.
But who needs either one of those?
My Opinion
5/5⭐
When I say I devoured this book, I'm not kidding, seriously. It took me two days to read it, and that's extremely fast for me. Move over Lukov, because "Wait for It" stole my heart three times over.
Diana's journey got me reflecting hard on where I wanna be in my 30s (which is creeping up, and yep, the terror is real). Her struggles hit close to home – not the aunt bit, but that constant questioning if you're doing enough, if you're enough. She overthinks, just like me, just like many people. Overthinking is many people's hell, and I think sometimes we forget that we are not alone in that situation. Who can't relate to a bit of overthinking? It's like our unofficial club, right?
I connected deeply with specific opinions of Diana, how she relates to her family, and specifically with certain relatives. As I am also Latina, I perfectly understand the dynamics of how Hispanic families are, and many times, children carry certain things that should not be our responsibility.
How, sometimes, tough love is too much and can break a person more than make them stronger. The feeling that no matter what you do, and the merits you achieve are not enough, is one of the worst feelings in the universe.
The age gap between Diana and Dallas initially raised an eyebrow, but guess what? Sometimes, you can overlook tropes and soak in the character chemistry. Dallas with his acts of service as a love language? Total book BF material. He's officially on my book boyfriend list, and those qualities? Sign me up for that IRL!
Mariana Zapata's slow-burn genius got me hooked. She crafts characters and stories that yank you out of reality. I've practically highlighted my Kindle into oblivion – seriously considering a physical copy for some serious re-reading and highlighting action.
This book isn't just laughs; it's a deep dive into human resilience. Loss, love, laughter – it's all there. "Wait for It" reminded me to fight for what I want, be fearless, and channel my inner Diana. A beautiful, heartwarming tale that I'm totally recommending to anyone within earshot.
This read sparked a revelation about self-love and the beauty of bouncing back after loss. Life can be tough, but finding love, laughter, and rediscovering yourself? That's the real magic.
So, if you're into laughs, life lessons, and a slow-burn that'll keep you up all night, "Wait for It" is your next must-read. Trust me, your bookshelf will thank you!
